Behind the Pen: An Exclusive Interview with Author Jen Turner

Posted on March 12, 2025March 12, 2025 by Sais

Meet the Author: A Houston Native with a Passion for Storytelling

Hailing from Houston, Texas, Jen Turner is the author of To Steal, Kill, & Destroy In This Game Called Love. She brings a unique and powerful voice to the world of urban fiction. With a background in Criminal Justice and degrees in Business Administration and Strategic Human Resource Management, the author has developed a deep understanding of human nature—something that shines through in her writing.

A devoted mother to her son, Dayvion, and daughter, Josselynn, she has always found joy and inspiration in books and storytelling. Her passion for writing emerged early—so early, in fact, that her elementary school teacher once failed her on a writing project because the work was “too good” for a child to have written! That early experience only strengthened her desire to create, leading to a lifelong journey of writing and creative expression.

“I’ve always loved to dream and create my own world.”- Jen Turner

Sealing the moment! Jen Turner, proudly signing copies of her book at the release party.

“I’m very proud of myself. It wasn’t easy, but I did it!”- Jen Turner

“My ultimate goal is to get my books picked up for a movie. I’m manifesting being a bestselling author. With God on my side, nothing is impossible!”

About the Book: A Raw and Gritty Urban Love Story
To Steal, Kill, & Destroy In This Game Called Love is not your typical romance. It’s an urban erotica tale that delves into the darker side of love and relationships, tackling themes of abuse, betrayal, and survival with unflinching honesty.

The story follows Jervonte Westley (Von) and Trinity Coleman, childhood sweethearts whose once-promising relationship spirals into a cycle of pain and control. When Trinity catches the eye of Jatavion Mathews (Ja), a new love interest with the power to rival Von’s influence, her world is thrown into turmoil. As Von’s dark secrets unravel, Trinity finds herself at the center of a dangerous game where love, power, and revenge collide.

The author wanted to create a story that reflects the harsh realities many women face in abusive relationships while offering hope and empowerment. “I want women going through similar situations to know that you may be wounded but not broken. You deserve better, and change will come.”

The Creative Process: From Vision to Reality
This story had been simmering in the author’s mind for years before she finally decided to put pen to paper. “I imagined all the characters and scenes for years,” she explains. “I finally decided to stop procrastinating and write the story.”

Developing the characters came naturally—many of them had lived in her imagination for a long time. She paints a vivid picture of their growth from teenagers to adults, exposing the roots of their choices and the consequences they face.

Despite the creative flow, the publishing process came with its challenges. Finding the right editor, book formatter, and designer took time. But once the team was in place, everything clicked. “It took me a year to finish the book, but only because of distractions. Once I was focused, I completed it within three months.”

Her advice to aspiring authors? “Stay focused and write daily. You’ll be done in no time!”

A Bold Decision to Self-Publish
Choosing to self-publish gave the author complete creative control over her work. “I didn’t want to sign with a publisher because I want my work to be mine. I want to pick my covers, my titles, and my designs.”

The decision has paid off. Feedback from readers has been overwhelmingly positive. “Most people can’t believe this is my first published novel!” she says proudly. “It wasn’t easy, but I did it!”

She promotes her work through social media platforms and has built a loyal following. “I challenge anyone who hasn’t written a book to try it—it’s harder than you think!”

Where to Find the Book
To Steal, Kill, & Destroy In This Game Called Love is available for purchase on Amazon in Kindle, paperback, and hardcover formats. In addition to her debut novel, the author has eight culturally inspired coloring books, a manifestation diary, and a crossword puzzle book available on her Amazon storefront.

A standout excerpt from the book, the Breakfast Klub Cafe scene, perfectly captures the book’s tension and chemistry:

“I don’t know Trinity. I kind of like a little danger,” I said, smirking. I wanted them to know I wasn’t scared at all. The small man’s grin faded, replaced by a scowl. “You better listen to her, boy. You got one minute to get your ass outta here before the hospital has to hook yo ass up to a ventilator.”

What Readers Can Expect
The author wants readers to feel Trinity’s trauma and strength. “I want people to know that eventually, every dog has its day.”

She connects with her audience through Facebook, TikTok, Twitter, and Instagram and is open to interviews, Q&A sessions, and promotional events.

What’s Next?
The author is already working on her next two novels—both guaranteed to be page-turners. My Ex is Now My Stepson explores ultimate betrayal, while Southern Charm, Deadly Harm tells the chilling story of a female serial killer.

“I don’t want to limit myself to being an urban novelist,” she says. “I’m excited to explore different genres and keep growing as an author.”

To Steal, Kill, & Destroy In This Game Called Love is more than a book—it’s a bold statement about love, power, and survival. Buckle up—this is one story you won’t want to put down.

I am Jennie’s Mom, she is a remarkable young lady as well as a daughter. She always loved to read and write stories. We are very proud of her. She has always been driven to accomplish anything she put her mind to do.” I can’t” was never in her vocabulary . To steal, kill and destroy in this game called love is a pretty extraordinary book for my daughter’s first book. I didn’t know she could write like this. Really a great story
